
Southend-on-Sea RNLI tasked to a dog in distress at Chalkwell
Friday 02 February 2024 at 2.11pm Southend RNLI volunteers were paged to launch Hovercraft to a dog in distress south of Chalkwell railway station
Southend RNLI volunteer crew launched the charity’s Hovercraft H004 Vera Ravine, at 2.30pm passing under Southend pier then heading towards Chalkwell in a moderate southwest breeze. Further information from HM Coastguard revealed the dog was stuck on the mud and isolated 50 meters from shore near Essex yacht club boat racks with a rising tide.
Southend-on-Sea RNLI Hovercraft arrived on scene, the dog and owner were located on the beach. The dog had been recovered by a member of public who had waded out to rescued it.
The RNLI volunteer crew left a blanket for the dog then were stood down by HM Coastguard and returned to station at 3pm leaving the rescuer, dog and owner in the care of Southend Coastguard Rescue team for welfare checks.
Southend RNLI Hovercraft H004 Vera Ravine was refuelled and made ready for service.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution is the charity that saves lives at sea.
