Lyme Regis RNLI Christmas dinner marks 200th anniversary triumph

Fifty Lyme Regis RNLI crew members, their families and friends, marked the end of a momentous 200th anniversary year for the life-saving charity last night (7 Dec) with a Christmas dinner and presentation event at the town’s Harbour Inn.

Awards were made to a number of sea-going and shore crew as long serving volunteer Elliott Herbert announced that the Lyme Regis crew had answered 37 calls for help so far this year and had held 46 exercise sessions.

Awards were made to four crew who have passed out as fully trained during the past few months. They are Maria Barbashina, Cris Cadby, Andrew Barker and John Cable. The crew’s special award for outstanding contributions during the year went to Petrina Muscroft for her work on events celebrating the RNLI’s 200th anniversary.

The tongue-in-cheek Bent Propeller trophy was awarded to helm Seb Cope and tractor driver Andrew Rice, a volunteer for some 38 years, also received a special award.

The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands.
