Peterhead RNLI receive over £11,900 from Revitalising Trusts Project
On Wednesday 4 December, Peterhead RNLI welcomed guests from Foundation Scotland and OSCR (Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator) who have been working together on the Revitalising Trusts Project.
The Revitalising Trusts Project, a collaboration between OSCR and major funder, Foundation Scotland, has so far released over £5 million of dormant funds for public benefit since the project was launched in 2021.
The donation of over £11,900 for Peterhead RNLI comes from the Peterhead Harbour Medical Health Care Trust. The trust was established in June 1988 and was set up to provide medical equipment, maintenance of rescue and first aid services, as well as medical and first aid research for the citizens of Peterhead and District.
The project identified that the local RNLI lifeboat station would be a natural fit for these funds – receiving over £11,900 towards the core costs of local operation.
Representatives from Foundation Scotland and OSCR met with volunteer crew members at Peterhead RNLI Lifeboat Station on Wednesday 4 December to learn more about the charity’s lifesaving work in the local community.
Gary Culkin, Lifeboat Operations Manager, Peterhead RNLI said ‘The RNLI and every life saved at sea depends on local support and donations like this one. As a charity, separate from the coastguard and independent from the government, we are reliant on voluntary donations to power our lifesaving work, such as training volunteer crew members.
‘We are extremely grateful to everyone involved with the Revitalising Trusts Project for recognising our lifesaving work and continuing to make it possible. This donation could cover more than half of Peterhead RNLI’s annual costs to train and equip our crew in 2025, or approximately 10% of the station’s overheads. In terms of a single donation, this goes a long way to supporting the lifeboat and its crew for another year.’
