Lifeboat Operations Manager presents a letter of thanks to Cobb Arms landlord Gary Valentine

The generous provision of complimentary hot meals is a tradition which dates to 1993 and has now been recognised by the RNLI in a letter of thanks signed by the charity’s Chief Executive Peter Sparkes. The letter was presented to current landlord Gary Valentine by volunteer Lifeboat Operations Manager Mark Colley.

Mark Colley said: ‘We really appreciate the generous support we receive from Gary and his team. In cold weather such as tonight a hot meal is really welcome after a training exercise at sea. We recently realised that this tradition has been going on for 31 years and it was about time we thanked the Cobb Arms formally.’

Landlord Gary Valentine said: ‘I was very happy to carry on the tradition started by my predecessors Caroline and Bill Wiscombe in 1993. The volunteer RNLI crew do a great job and, as it says in the letter, providing a complimentary meal after training is our way of helping to ‘save lives at sea.’. This letter from the RNLI is a lovely gesture and I’m pleased to accept it on behalf of my predecessors as well as myself.’
