This means there will be exciting opportunities for those who would like to give their time as crew.

The opportunities presented by the now-permanent move to Grimsby Dock are among the reasons that the crew will be able to welcome volunteers.

Vacancies will be advertised on the RNLI website.

Anna Heslop, Regional Operations Lead for RNLI North and East, said: “At the heart of the RNLI’s achievements over the last 200 years, volunteering is what we do and how we do it – so we’re excited to be able to offer new volunteering opportunities to our communities in Grimsby.

“We know there is a desire locally to volunteer for the RNLI following a good response to recent recruitment campaign for Cleethorpes.”

Humber RNLI is remaining an all-weather lifeboat (ALB) station with a Severn class lifeboat and offers a broader range of roles to people in Grimsby and Cleethorpes interested in volunteering.

Cleethorpes provides a vital inshore lifeboat service from further south along the coastline and progress is now well underway on a state-of-art new lifeboat station, enhancing the RNLI’s work in Lincolnshire.

Notes to editors

Established at Spurn Point in 1810, Humber has been the only lifeboat station with a full time crew and it has carried out some outstanding rescues during its 214-year history.

Issues impacting Spurn Point including ageing infrastructure, meant it was no longer commercially viable – or the best use of public donations – or safe for the RNLI to operate from this remote location.

Therefore, in February 2023 Humber RNLI relocated to Grimsby to continue providing a highly professional lifesaving response.

A permanent lifesaving facility has been in development at Grimsby.
