Lytham St Annes RNLI Lifeboat Station make ready for the annual station open day

Lifeboats News Release

The final preparations for the big day on Saturday 14 September are in hand as the station's volunteers prepare for the annual event.

The open day runs from 10.30am to 4.30pm at the Barbara Anne’s RNLI Boathouse on South Promenade (FY8 1SJ), behind the swimming Baths on Eastbank Road.

The Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) MOAM will be brought from her boathouse on Central Beach for people to view and compare the two state-of-the-art lifeboats.

Volunteer crew members will be on hand and ready to answer questions and share details of the boats and their launching methods.

This event is put on in conjunction with the St Annes International Kite Festival, held on the same weekend, so there will be plenty for all to see.

Other emergency services, such as HM Coastguard, Ambulance and Fire & Rescue will attend to explain their equipment and their roles in saving lives in the community, dependant on operational requirements.

There will be games for children and adults, live entertainment throughout the day and a BBQ, cafe and bar to make sure nobody goes hungry or thirsty.

Alison Young, Lytham St Annes Fundraising Branch Secretary said: “It is a great chance for the public to learn about the RNLI and have an enjoyable day out.

'There will also be an opportunity to purchase a Lytham St Annes RNLI Memorial Paver to be fitted on view outside the Boathouse to commemorate a loved one or to just show your support. Each time the lifeboat launches, it will travel over the pavers on her way to the sea.'
