Llandudno RNLI and HM Coastguard work together to safely evacuate injured person
On Thursday 29 August at 4.04pm, Llandudno’s inshore lifeboat Dr Barbara Saunderson was called into action to assist with the evacuation of a person in distress on the long boating jetty at Llandudno’s North Shore.
The lifeboat launched promptly at 4.10pm, reaching the scene by 4.20pm where Llandudno Coastguard were already administering first aid to the casualty.
However, due to the rising tide and the narrowness of the jetty the Coastguard's ability to manoeuvre and operate in a safely was severely restricted.
Llandudno RNLI's volunteer crew provided pain relief to the casualty and carefully moved them onto a stretcher with the assistance of the Coastguard.
Given the challenging environment, it was decided that the safest course of action was to transfer the casualty onto the lifeboat for a short journey to the old lifeboat slipway nearby.
Once there, the lifeboat crew handed the casualty over to the Coastguard, before handing the casualty over into the care of the Welsh Ambulance Service.
A spokesperson from Llandudno RNLI said: ‘Teamwork is at the heart of everything we do, and this operation was a perfect example of that.
‘Our collaboration with the Coastguard ensures that we can respond swiftly and effectively in challenging situations. By working together, we’re able to pool our expertise and resources, ultimately providing the best possible care and support to those in need.’
