Crowds flock to Seahouses RNLI Multi Agency Services Day

On Saturday 24 August 2024, Seahouses RNLI held a multi-agency day, with fellow emergency services, as rain clouds gave way to warm sunshine.

Northumbria Police, North East Ambulance Service and First Responders, HM Coastguard, Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, and the British Divers Marine Life Rescue, were all in attendance, together with Seahouses all-weather and inshore lifeboats

Crews from all of the services were present to answer questions and talk about their respective roles with the many visitors. Refreshments, RNLI Souvenirs, and other stalls were also available in and around the boathouse.

RNLI volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer at Seahouses, Ian Clayton, commented: ‘A busy day for us all, with loads of interest about the work and equipment of the various emergency services present. We regard the event as very worthwhile and hope our many visitors enjoyed their day.’

Key facts about the RNLI

The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 146,000 lives.
