Beaumaris volunteers launch to assist a windsurfer.

On Friday (23 August) at approximately 2.44pm, volunteer lifeboat crew from Beaumaris RNLI were tasked by HM Coastguard to a windsurfer believed to be in difficulties near Beaumaris.

The Beaumaris RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew launched their Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat Annette Mary Liddington and proceeded to the advised location. In addition to the lifeboat volunteers, the Mobile Coastguard Rescue Teams from Penmon and Bangor had also been tasked.

The windsurfer was recovered aboard the lifeboat, and required no medical assistance. The equipment was also recovered by the lifeboat. The casualty and board being taken ashore to the waiting Penmon coastguard team..

The coastguard then stood the lifeboat down the vessel and her volunteer crew returning to her station by 3.09pm being cleaned and refuelled, ready for the next service call.by 3.40pm when the volunteer crew left the station.

A RNLI spokesperson said: ‘the ‘informants ashore did the correct thing in alerting the Coastguard to the situation. This meant our volunteer lifeboat crew were able to reach the casualty quickly, assess the situation and take the best course of action to prevent the situation worsening.’
