Troon RNLI lifeboat launches to vessel in difficulty at Kames Bay
At 12.56pm on Wednesday 21 August 2024, the pagers for the volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew were activated by Belfast Coastguard following reports of a vessel in difficulty in Kames Bay, Isle of Cumbrae.
The vessel had slipped its anchor and in strong southerly winds, and the vessel was being pushed further towards the shore.
Given the size of the vessel and the weather conditions on scene, Trent class lifeboat RNLB Jim Moffat was soon launched and heading towards the scene, with Cumbrae Coastguard Rescue Team monitoring for the shore.
While heading to the scene, it was confirmed that the vessel was now aground, however all crew were safe on board. With a commercial tug heading to the scene to assist, the decision was made to stand the lifeboat down by Belfast Coastguard.
The all-weather lifeboat returned to Troon, where it was made ‘ready for service’ with the assistance of the shore crew.
