Lyme Regis RNLI lifeboat recruits new member to the senior management team
Volunteers from Lyme Regis RNLI welcomed a new face to the lifeboat station this week when Dave Knott (65) was appointed to join the station’s team of Launching Authorities.
Mr Knott, a retired businessman and yacht owner moved to Lyme Regis from Reading in 2021 with partner Maia. They quickly found themselves becoming engaged in volunteering work for the RNLI, most notably during the charity’s successful annual Lifeboat Week events. Mr Knott said: ‘I now have more time on my hands and wanted to do more to help the lifeboat crew in Lyme Regis. I have always been aware of the valuable lifesaving work the charity does and, as a yachtsman, have always felt reassured by the fact that if anything went wrong the RNLI would come out to help.’
Lifeboat Operations Manager Mark Colley said: ‘We are very pleased to welcome Dave to the Lyme Regis crew. He brings valuable maritime and management experience to our team of Launching Authorities one of whom is on call 24/7, 365 days a year.’
Launching Authorities are a crucial part of lifeboat operations and have the responsibility for deciding when it is safe and appropriate to launch a lifeboat in response to a call for help. The launching authority role is one of a number of shore-based roles at a RNLI lifeboat station. Details can be found online at RNLI.org/volunteer.
