Berwick-upon-Tweed RNLI warning - you cannot out run the tide

Lifeboats News Release

On 17 August 2024 at 2.03pm HM Coastguard requested the launch of Berwick-upon-Tweed RNLI's Atlantic 85 lifeboat to assist HM Coastguards from Berwick-upon-Tweed and Holy Island, to a vehicle caught on Holy Island causeway by the tide.

RNLI Berwick-upon-Tweed make haste

The RNLI crew made haste to Holy Island and on arrival as the tide was receding, it was then possible for HM Coastguard teams to wade out to the people in the vehicle and recover them, whilst the RNLI crew stood by to make sure all landed safely on dry land.

To anyone visiting Holy Island, the RNLI advises people that they cannot out run the tide, and before and on leaving the Island to check the tide timetable, they are at either end of the causeway, in and around the island and available on the internet.

If you get into difficulty or see some one else in difficulty, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
