Two callouts for Troon RNLI inshore lifeboat
At 5.30pm on Sunday 11 August 2024, Belfast Coastguard paged the volunteer lifeboat crew for the first of two callouts.
The first launch request was to launch RNLI D class inshore lifeboat Sheena following reports from a member of the public of two stand up paddleboarders in difficulty at Ayr.
With the crew assembling, D class inshore lifeboat Sheena was soon on route while Ayr Coastguard Rescue Team were also making their way to the scene to provide additional assistance from the shore.
After arriving on scene, Ayr Coastguard Team confirmed that a member of the public had assisted the paddleboarders ashore and the lifeboat assistance was no longer required.
With no persons in difficulty, the inshore lifeboat returned to station where the lifeboat was made ‘ready for service’ with the assistance of the shore crew.
At 10.13pm, Belfast Coastguard once again alerted the lifeboat volunteers after a request for assistance in the search for a person believed to be overdue from a trip to sea off Stevenston Point.
Alongside Police Scotland and Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team, D class inshore lifeboat Sheena carried out a search for the person and their vessel.
Following a short search, the person was located ashore and so Belfast Coastguard stood down the search. The inshore lifeboat returned to Troon, where it was once again made ‘ready for service’ with the assistance of the shore crew.
