At 6:39pm on Sunday August 11, Rock RNLI's volunteer lifeboat crew launched their inshore D class lifeboat, Rusper II.

A call to the Coastguard raised the alarm of a young boy lost in the surf at Polzeath beach.

The three volunteers of Rock Lifeboat Station who responded and operated the lifeboat had more than 75 years of combined experience between them.

Polzeath Coastguard were also on scene trying to establish a sighting of the young boy. Other volunteer crew who attended the station waited for the news of a successful outcome.

Thankfully the casualty was found safe and well on the beach as our volunteer crew arrived on scene. Rusper II was stood down and returned to station where it was readied for service again.

Rock RNLI volunteer helm Charlie Toogood said: 'Speed was of the essence today with an immediate launch page from the coastguard, we were on scene in good time and are thankful it was a happy ending to this shout.'

The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea and relies on public donations to carry out our lifesaving work.
