Berwick-upon-Tweed RNLI in multi-agency call to aid vessel in difficulty
At 4.25 pm on 11 August 2024, HM Coastguard UK requested the launch of two RNLI flank lifeboat stations to assist a vessel with steering and engine issues.
Berwick-upon-Tweed RNLI launched their Atlantic 85 lifeboat and Eyemouth RNLI launched their Shannon class lifeboat.
On arrival at the scene, a Windcat from a nearby Wind Farm had already taken up the tow and was heading to Berwick.
After assessing the situation, Eyemouth RNLI crew with their Shannon lifeboat assisted with the tow, whilst Berwick-upon-Tweed lifeboat stood by until the vessel was safely moored at the Berwick Dock and then handed over to HM Coastguard. This was a good example of partnership working.
