Three people in small fishing craft assisted by Porthdinllaen RNLI
The occupants on board a vessel which had broken down and drifting out to sea required help from the RNLI volunteers at Porthdinllaen on Saturday.
At 5.10pm, Porthdinllaen RNLI crew were paged after three people in a small 16 food craft had contacted HM Coastguard at Holyhead advising that they had broken down and drifting out to sea near Porth Colmon in Llangwnnadl.
With a full complement of volunteer crew members onboard, the Tamar Class lifeboat with Second Coxswain Robert Jones at the helm, made best possible speed towards the last reported position of the casualty. Arriving on scene, it was found that they had suffered a mechanical issue with their outboard engine and had no other means to make it ashore. There was concern for their safety as the vessel was drifting out to sea.
The volunteer crew then rigged up a tow line and the lifeboat proceeded at a safe and slow speed to tow the casualty back to Porth Colmon. As soon as they were safely ashore the lifeboat returned to its station, refuelled, and washed down and ready for service.
Robert Jones, Second Coxswain said:
‘We are glad this incident reached a safe conclusion. We advise that all outboard and inboard engines and propulsion on any craft is checked and serviced annually’.
