On Tuesday 30 July, the volunteer crew of the Arran RNLI Lifeboat Station were tasked with two separate shouts in the space of two hours.

At 1.45pm the pagers sounded and despite extensive road works near the station in Lamlash, the crew launched within 9 minutes to assist Scottish Ambulance & the Arran Coastguard Rescue Team who were with a casualty that had fallen and suffered a dislocated shoulder.

Arriving on scene the crew found the Rescue 199 Helicopter had arrived so they assisted with the high-line while the casualty was winched aboard.

A spokesperson from Arran RNLI said: ‘When walking in remote locations or near edges around the sea we strongly recommend taking a means of calling for help. It is also advisable to tell someone else where you’re going and when you’ll be back as mobile reception can be poor around parts of the Arran coastline.’

As the crew returned to the station another shout was called in by HM Belfast Coastguard to assist the skipper of a yacht in Brodick.

They arrived on the scene and quickly confirmed the casualty and vessel were safe then returned to the station where the boat was fuelled and readied for the next service.
