The weekend started off with volunteers taking part in the organisation's “One Moment One Crew” photograph taken by Sue Gillone on 1.8.24 at 1824hrs in the community garden at the crew room, and finished with the final dish being washed by a weary fundraiser five days later. It has certainly been a hectic and amazing time.

Support for the fundraising appeal for Kirkcudbright's new boathosue has been tremendous, and this weekend brought the entire community together.

The whole town embraced Kirkcudbright Art and Crafts Trail's theme of RNLI 200. Around 25 Shops and houses decorated their windows, businesses and traders sold items, raffles were run, the local post box was given a special topper and slices of cake sold along with numerous other events too many to mention.

The Kirkcudbright RNLI Fundraising Committee organised an exhibition in the crew room to mark the 200 years, provided refreshments and ran children’s craft activities during the whole period. Two hugely successful wine and canape evenings were also held raising over £1000 alone with all food and drink being donated by supporters.

It will be some time before the monetary value of this weekend is calculated, however the over riding sense felt by the whole of Kirkcudbright’s Volunteer Crew: boat, shore, fundraising and management is the overwhelming support given to RNLI in general and in particular to Kirkcudbright. Probably very little changed for the last 200 years.

Many people need to be thanked but a particular mention must go to the Kirkcudbright Art and Crafts Trail who have generously allowed us to use this annual event to promote the Boathouse extension appeal and raise a huge amount of money.

Jeff Dolby, Chairman of Kirkcudbright RNLI said after the event “The way in which the town got behind us from shop fronts to donations of food and drinks has been remarkable, just like Kirkcudbright has given us a big hug.”

We still have some way to go with this appeal but this has been a tremendous effort by everyone and we are excited to take Kirkcudbright RNLI forward into the next generation, complete with a fabulous new boathouse.
