Beaumaris lifeboat volunteers launched twice on Saturday to assist two vessels.
At 1.02 pm on Saturday 3 August 2024 the volunteer crew members of the Beaumaris lifeboat received a page from H. M. Coastguard to go to a boat aground at Traeth Gwyllt. This was followed by a further request at 6.44 pm to assist a vessel near Y Felinheli. Both locations being in the Menai Strait.
Regarding the first service the lifeboat launched at 1.15 pm proceeding to the sandbar near the Sea Zoo at Brynsiencyn, upon which was a grounded rigid inflatable boat.
A lifeboat volunteer crew member went ashore on the sandbank and conversed with the two persons aboard the craft. They elected to remain aboard until the vessel refloated with an incoming tide. The lifeboat volunteer ensured that the anchor was correctly deployed, that they had adequate clothing and a supply of bottled water was provided. Once it had been confirmed that they would make regular telephone calls to H.M. Coastguard to confirm that all was well the lifeboat was instructed to stand down and return to station
The lifeboat arrived back at Beaumaris Lifeboat Station at 2.45 pm to be refuelled and cleaned.
The lifeboat launched for the second time that day at 6.57 pm. proceeding to a motor yacht near Y Felinheli as a member of the public ashore believed they had been waving for assistance. Once on scene it transpired that whilst the yacht had suffered an engine malfunction it was now securely attached to a mooring. The two crew aboard gladly accepted a lift on the lifeboat to Y Felinheli marina.
Once this was completed the lifeboat returned to Beaumaris arriving at 7.45 pm to be refuelled and cleaned.
A RNLI spokesperson said: the ‘informants ashore in both instances did the correct thing in alerting the Coastguard to their predicament. This meant our volunteer lifeboat crew were able to reach the casualty quickly, assess the situation and take the best course of action to prevent the situation worsening.’
