The RNLI Family from Lytham St Annes came together for a historic photo
The station volunteers gathered at South Promenade for the 'One Moment for One Crew' event.
The event took place at the All-weather Lifeboat House on 1 August 2024 at 6.24pm, (that is on 1/8/24 at 18.24 in the 24-hour clock) to coincide with the founding of the charity in March 1824.
The photos included representatives from the operational and shore crews, the souvenir shop volunteers, the Boathouse Visits Team, Fundraising Team, Station Management Team, and the Water Safety and Water Education volunteers. All of these volunteers work as One Crew, as all parts are needed and without this make-up of dedicated volunteers the lifeboats would be unable to launch and save lives at sea
The Lytham St Annes D class inshore lifeboat (ILB) MOAM was brought by her Land Rover from her Boathouse at Central Beach and lined up with the Shannon class all-weather lifeboat (ALB)
Barbara Anne for the photo shoot which was kindly undertaken by two local photographers.
The RNLI celebrated its 200th anniversary on 4 March this year, and this photographic moment is one of a range of events and programmes which the charity has organised to mark its bicentenary. For further information about the RNLI’s 200th anniversary, visit RNLI.org/200.
The photo shoot took place in front of the Boathouse where the line of pavers leading to the slipway are located. A number of the pavers are being replaced in September for the Lytham St Annes RNLI 200th Anniversary Paver Project. This project is where you can engrave a paver with with a loved one’s name (or your own if you wish) - as a memorial to the 200th anniversary of the RNLI and your chosen person.
These may be purchased and will be set in the path over which the Lifeboat passes every time she launches. Time to order a paver is running out with orders being needed by the end of August. It is planned to unveil the pavers in the morning of 5 November 2024 to coincide with the forthcoming 'Coast to Cobbles' event (further details nearer the time will follow).
Lytham St Annes Branch Chairman Digby Moulden later said:
'For all of you that came along to the above event last night, on behalf of Paul Little (Lifeboat Operations Manager) and myself, its a huge thank you for making it such a success.'
