Beaumaris Lifeboat volunteers assist Jet Ski that had run aground.
At 8.05 pm on Monday 4 September 2023 the volunteer crew members of the Beaumaris lifeboat received a page from H.M. Coastguard relating to a message received from the rider of a jet ski that he was hard aground on Dutchman Bank in the Menai Strait.
The relief Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat Irene Cornford currently based at Beaumaris with her volunteer crew launched at 8.18 pm and proceeded to get as close as possible to the reported position of the casualty craft.
Due to the jet ski being so far aground one of the volunteer crew members left the lifeboat and proceeded on foot over the sandbar being assisted by directions given by the Bangor Mobile Coastguard unit on the shore.
As the next incoming high tide was not due until 3.00 am the rider of the jet ski elected to deploy and anchor and leave the craft returning ashore board the lifeboat.
Once ashore he arranged for the jet ski to be recovered once the tide once the water level on the bar was sufficient.to float the craft.
The lifeboat returned to her station at Beaumaris arriving at 9.52 pm to be refuelled and cleaned.
Once this had been completed by 10.26 pm the crew left the station.
A RNLI spokesman said, “The jet skier had the correct equipment on board including a VHF radio which greatly assisted with our ability to communicate with him.’
