Restaurateurs Lyn and Jason Martin, who also run Dorset House B&B, provided a sumptuous pizza meal to the 40 diners who attended, predominantly representatives of local businesses who supply Poco Pizza. Also present were 4 volunteers from Lyme Regis lifeboat station.

Lyn and Jason had raised money by allocating the RNLI one pound from the sale of every special pizza sold throughout 2023. They also collected donations from their guests at Dorset House.

In presenting their donation to volunteer Lifeboat Operations Manager Mark Colley, Lyn said, ‘Over the years we have watched the volunteer crew at Lyme Regis go in and out of the harbour as they train or go out to rescue someone in distress. We wanted to support the amazing work they do. This is the second year we have helped the RNLI in this way and will to continue to do so in the future.

Mark Colley thanked Lyn and Jason for their donation and said, ‘We have answered 52 shouts in 2023, not far off our record of yearly total of 55. Every one of those shouts was made possible by donations such as this. They enable us to buy the right equipment and to train our crew to the highest level. I am also pleased you are planning to support us in 2024, the year in which we celebrate our 200th anniversary’.

More details of the RNLI’s bicentenary can be found on its website RNLI.org, Here you find details of how the charity intends to commemorate the volunteers who have gone before, celebrate the work its volunteers are doing today and inspire future generations of lifesaving volunteers.
