The Tree, donated by Western Bio Energy

On Saturday (18 November) fundraisers at Port Talbot RNLI held a Christmas market which was opened by the Neath Port Talbot Mayor Chris Williams. The 6ft Christmas tree that adorned the main hall was donated by Western Bio Energy, a sustainable power plant based in Margam.

Once the market was officially opened, local ladies choir Cor Serenata put on a show for the sellers and customers by singing some much loved Christmas carols. Maureen Trahar of Cor Serenata said: ‘It was a pleasure to sing again at the market in support of such a worthwhile cause’.

There were over 20 stalls with local sellers showcasing their wonderful handmade products from cider and dog treats to Highland cow footstools. As well as these handmade delights, the RNLI volunteers were selling products from the RNLI shop including their ever popular Christmas cards.

The day was topped off by a raffle, teddy tombola, face painting and a visit from Santa himself!

The market raised £500 all of which has been donated to the RNLI. As a charity the RNLI relies on voluntary donations to power its lifesaving work. There are many ways that you can give to the RNLI, such as giving to our appeals or by simply making a one off donation. You can also support by taking part in an organised fundraising event or plan one of your own.
