RNLI Clacton launch D-Class Lifeboat to reports of person in the water

The crew launched their D-Class ILB (In-Shore Lifeboat) ‘Damar’s Pride’ into calm sea conditions but reduced visibility and headed to the last reported location, whereby a search was conducted but no casualty located in the water.

The crew then turned to their thermal imaging headsets, and when scouring the shoreline, the casualty was located on the beach steps adjacent to Beach Road. The volunteer crew proceeded to wait offshore to monitor the ongoing situation.

Shortly after a mobile coast guard until from Walton arrived at the scene, and the crew guided this team to meet with the casualty. Once the casualty was in the care of the mobile team, the crew were stood down.

The crew returned to the lifeboat station where the ILB was recovered, cleaned, refuelled and back on service by 7.10pm.

RNLI Clacton Press Officer Mark Walsham said, ‘Should anyone see anyone in difficulties in or around the water, call 999 and ask for the coastguard to call for help.’
