Hoylake RNLI volunteer crew to host fundraising car wash
Hoylake RNLI is calling on its supporters and the local community to come along to its fundraising car wash and raise vital funds to keep people safe at the coast this summer.
Organised by the Hoylake RNLI lifeboat crew, the car wash will see the volunteers scrub, rinse and polish visitors’ cars for just £5 per vehicle from 10am until 1pm on Saturday 3rd June. Last year saw the return of this much-loved event after its three-year hiatus due to Covid, raising just under £900!
With Hoylake RNLI volunteer crew launching 37 times in 2022 and 39 in 2021, money raised through fundraising events like this help to ensure that lifeboat crews and lifeguards have everything they need to save lives at sea.
Warmer weather draws more people to the water, and the RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews will drop whatever they’re doing when a call for help comes in. There’s no greater example than when last year’s event turned into a real-life distress call as the crew’s pagers sounded, coming to the rescue of four paddle borders being swept out to sea as they struggled against an offshore wind and ebbing tide.
Hoylake RNLI Coxswain Howie Owen says: ‘We’re thrilled to be hosting our annual car wash. Our community has always been very generous in its support for their local lifeboat station and we can’t wait to welcome them back. Our crew clean our lifeboat, hovercraft and tractors thoroughly after every launch, so visitors can be sure their cars will leave looking shipshape.’
Howie added: ‘Summer sees thousands of people heading out to enjoy our coast. It’s our busiest time of year as anyone can get into difficulty, whether it’s an experienced sailor, a group of friends on paddleboards, or a family enjoying a beach trip.’
‘Our crew are ready to launch to the rescue but we rely on the generosity of the public to support events like our car wash, raising vital funds so we can be there when we’re needed most. Your support funds training, kit, stations and fuel – just some of the things we need to save lives.’
