
Largs RNLI assists 2 people on a 33-foot yacht becalmed and with engine failure.
The volunteer RNLI crew at Largs Lifeboat station were paged shortly before 10.45pm, on Sunday 21 May 2023. The skipper of the yacht had notified the Coastguard that they required assistance after their engine failed near Innellan.
The volunteer crew that had assembled at the station quickly launched their Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat ‘R A Wilson’ and made best speed to the location.
After a short passage the volunteer crew were alongside the casualty vessel, a crewmember was placed on board to assist in setting up a tow line and the yacht was towed to Inverkip Marina. On arrival at the marine, the Lifeboat crew and yacht were assisted in berthing the vessel by members of Greenock Coastguard rescue team.
With the yacht now safe, the Lifeboat was released from service and returned to station. Where it was recovered, refuelled, and made ready for the next service call.
Lifeboat Operations Manager John Griffiths said ‘The yachts swift actions when realising they had issues and the ability to give a precise location enabled the call out to be completed in prompt manner.
