The Lymington RNLI 10k run and fun run is back.
After a long break the Lymington RNLI and their volunteers were able to once again host the annual Lymington RNLI 10K and Children’s Fun Runs.
The RNLI charity event, which was the 19 one, raises vital funds for the RNLI station and will primarily help raise funds for crew lifesaving kit and crew training.
It was quite a challenge this year having not done the event since 2019 yet they still managed to get 600 entrants for the 10K and over 200 children who ran in the four age group categories. The sponsors of the event cover the cost, which means that all the entry fees, individual sponsorship and donations all go direct to the RNLI.
The main 10K event, who’s headline sponsor, is the Yacht Haven Group, starts and finishes at Woodside. After heading out of the park the route takes the runners down to Keyhaven and returns back along the sea wall past Oxey Barn and into the back of Woodside, and then it’s a sprint to the finish located close to the Woodside Pavilion.
The Children’s runs which take place in Woodside has several distances, depending on the child’s age. The Children’s Runs are sponsored and supported by The Daily Mile GO Run For Fun and is delivered worldwide by the GO Run For Fun Foundation in partnership with INEOS, which aims to inspiring children to be more healthy and active through well organised running events. The Daily Mile GO Run For Fun is an international campaign, set up to inspire children to be more active through fun short-distance running events. It has been a phenomenal success so far with over 330,000 children having taken part since 2013.
The event was attended by Deputy Mayor, Cllr Simon Smith, who kindly assisted the Lymington Lifeboat Chairman, Steve Billett, with all the race starts and the prize-giving ceremony.
Other Sponsors and contributors, that the Lifeboat Crew are indebted to (there are too many to mention them all), are The Bosuns Chair, Chewton Glen, Spencers New Forest, Rivaaz, Elliotts, SenSpa, Coffee-Direct, Colten Care, Dunfords, Hugo Ambrose and the Pavilion team, South Coast Marquees, Lymington and Pennington Town Council, for the use of Woodside Park and of course the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Simon Smith.
Richard Clarke, one of the volunteer crew members and the event leader said; 'Another run in the sun’, and once again, I have been amazed by the Lymington Lifeboat Crew; their organisation and professionalism in delivering the infrastructure to put on this event is so impressive. It is reflective of everything I see them do on a day to day basis when I am with them in their RNLI volunteer roles. Alongside the Crew are numerous sponsors, organisations, and individuals who volunteered their time and resources, to deliver a hugely successful day for the local community, as well as the Lymington RNLI. A massive thank you to everyone involved, who supported me and I very much look forward to commencing the planning stages for next year’s event, which we hope will be bigger and better, on the 12 May 2024.'
Steve Billett the Lymington RNLI Chairman said 'What an amazing day. The turnout and hard work from all the team at the Lymington Lifeboat Station was terrific but huge thanks must go to Richard Clarke for all the organisation and work plan - and everything went so well.'
Valeria Sesto who helps run the juniors said 'After a four year break it was lovely to see so many little athletes running. The uplifting atmosphere and the positive energy of this event is contagious and inspiring for the children. The junior run brings the community together and I wish to thank all the volunteers who help bring this event together'.
