Graeme Staddon newly qualified Launch Authority

He always wanted to join but was never close enough to the station. Now that he only lives five minutes from Mudeford Quay, he is proud to be a member of the volunteer crew. As a Deputy Launch Authority (DLA), he is one of the people who authorises the launch of the lifeboat and ensures that all operational activities are carried out at the lifeboat station.

Originally from New Zealand, Graeme learned to sail at the age of six and has always spent his leisure time sailing. With his wife and two children also enjoying spending time on the water, he is keen to ensure it is safe for everyone to enjoy.

Graeme credits his employees, a locally based multi-academy trust, for enabling him to train and to respond to launch requests. ‘I really appreciate their support so I could take on this vital role in helping the community and savings lives at sea!’

When asked about the role so far, Graeme commented, ‘I am so pleased to be part of the crew. Everyone is absolutely brilliant. They have a wealth of knowledge and have made me feel welcome from day one.’
