Tobermory RNLI in multi-agency response to assist walker at Rubha nan Gall
Tobermory RNLI’s volunteer crew were involved in a multi-agency operation to go to the aid of a walker who became unwell close to Rubha nan Gall lighthouse on Friday 12 May 2023.
Shortly before 12.30pm, the volunteer crew launched Tobermory’s all weather lifeboat, Elizabeth Fairlie Ramsey, to cover the short distance to the end of the popular lighthouse path where the walker had become ill. The crew launched the lifeboat’s daughter craft, the Y Boat, and two casualty care trained crew members negotiated the shallow water and rocks to reach the shoreline where they were joined by members of Tobermory Coastguard Rescue Team. Having assessed the casualty, the lifeboat crew and coastguard officers transferred the person in a stretcher to the lifeboat before returning to collect their partner. The lifeboat then returned to Tobermory where the casualty was passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.
Tobermory RNLI Deputy Coxswain Dave Underwood said: ‘This was a great example of multi-agency working alongside our colleagues from Tobermory Coastguard Rescue Team and the Scottish Ambulance Service. All of us at Tobermory RNLI wish the walker a very speedy recovery’.
