With the pagers activated, the volunteer crew began to assemble at the lifeboat station and D class inshore lifeboat Sheena was soon launched. Belfast Coastguard requested the crew carry out a search from Troon harbour north to assist Police officers and the Ardrossan and Ayr Coastguard Rescue teams searching on shore.

While the inshore lifeboat was carrying out a search, information came through that the missing person had been located. With this news the crew were able to return to station where the inshore lifeboat was made ‘ready for service’ with the assistance of the shore crew
