The Shetland boat was being towed by a 43ft motor cruiser which subsequently fouled a propellor with a rope and lost propulsion in one engine.

RNLI Pwllheli’s D-class lifeboat launched at 6.12pm with four volunteer crew onboard and arrived on scene a short distance from the harbour entrance three minutes later.

The D-class helm assessed the situation and decided the best course of action was to tow the Shetland boat into Pwllheli Marina where it was berthed on a pontoon.

The inshore lifeboat returned to the motor cruiser and offered assistance which was declined, and then escorted the vessel to its berth.

Mark Dale, Pwllheli RNLI D-class helm said: “We were pleased to be able to assist the Shetland boat by towing it to a berth in Pwllheli Marina. We would advise people to always check they have enough fuel before starting their journey.”

The weather was partly cloudy with a light north-westerly breeze, good visibility and a calm sea.

The D-class inshore lifeboat returned to the station at 7.55pm where it was made ready for service
