The volunteer crew assembled at the lifeboat station launching D class inshore lifeboat Sheena, Trent class all-weather lifeboat RNLB Jim Moffat to assist officers from Police Scotland, as well as Ayr and Ardrossan Coastguard rescue teams.

Following enquiries by Police Scotland, it was established that no persons were in difficulty and the lifeboat and coastguard teams were able to stand down.

Both lifeboats returned to Troon where they were made ‘ready for service’ with the assistance of the shore crew.

Following the callout, Troon RNLI Lifeboat Coxswain Joe Millar said, 'Like the Police, Fire and Ambulance, the Coastguard are an emergency service with the same 999 number. So if you think you see someone in difficulty at the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.'
