
Swimmer assisted by lifeboat
Volunteers from Newbiggin RNLI lifeboat station were called out this afternoon after reports of a swimmer in difficulty in rough seas at Cresswell.
Newbiggin's B class lifeboat 'Richard Wake Burdon' was tasked to the incident at 2.00pm today arriving on scene around 10 minutes later. The swimmer had been in the rough sea but had managed to reach the safety of the shore as the lifeboat arrived. With assistance from lifeboat crew and coastguards from Amble coastguard rescue team the casualty was attended to before a transfer to hospital by ambulance.
