The volunteer RNLI crew were tasked by HM Coastguard at 5.30pm and the lifeboat was launched shortly after.

Upon arrival at the scene crew members were put ashore and provided casualty care to the climber, who had sustained an ankle injury.

Due to the location, it was deemed the safest method of extraction was by HM Coastguard rescue helicopter. The casualty was winched aboard at approximately 8.00pm before being transferred to land ambulance and taken to Ninewells Hospital for further treatment.

Lifeboat helmsman, Peter Willis, said “This was a tricky one due to the casualty’s location, however with the assistance of our colleagues at HM Coastguard we were able to ensure a safe transfer of the casualty into the care of the paramedics.”

“On behalf of all at Arbroath lifeboat station we would like to wish the injured climber a swift recovery.”
