Volunteer Dave's Folly Go-Round raises £1.4k for RNLI

Lifeboats News Release

Volunteer Dave Thompson, 78, completed 50 circuits round the Faringdon Folly on Sunday, July 23, raising £1,400 for the RNLI.

The Folly is a large tower at the top of a hill overlooking Faringdon and enjoys views of five surrounding counties.

Dave, chairman of the local Faringdon branch, said: "It was 18 miles in all and took just over six hours but I escaped with only a sore toe.

"My daughter Marie walked the first 25 laps with me and the time just flashed by as we caught up with family, friends and her work news."

The walk marked 50 years since the founding of RNLI Faringdon and in that time the branch has raised over £150,000.

Dave says: "Fifty laps seemed appropriate and there was plenty of support on the day from well-wishers whose bucket contributions boosted the amount already raised from friends and family via JustGiving."
