Lifeboats News Release

The pagers went shortly after the lifeboat had returned to station following an exercise and the shout saw the volunteer crew taking part in a wide search with HM Coastguard and other RNLI lifeboats. This followed reports there could potentially be a person missing in the water between Hengistbury Head and Boscombe Pier.

The RNLI lifeboat made good speed to the surrounding areas between Hengistbury Head and Boscombe Pier and arrived just half hour after launching.

At this point, RNLI lifeboats from Swanage and Mudeford had already began their search as well as Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 175.

Yarmouth RNLI began their parallel line search of the area at 9:23pm which included a total of 17 legs that were 1.2 nautical miles each. This search pattern lasted for two hours until the RNLI Lifeboat and her crew were stood down as nothing had been reported found in this time.

The volunteer crew then began their passage back to Yarmouth Harbour and were marked as ready for service at 12:38am.
