Lizard Lifeboat Launches to Assist Newlyn Fishing Vessel in Distress

Lifeboats News Release

Our crew were paged at 7.25pm on Thursday 12th January following a Mayday call received by Falmouth Coastguard

Geoff Squibb

Launching on service
A prompt launch saw RNLB Rose proceeding to a Newlyn based fishing vessel with 5 persons on board in an approximate position of 30 nautical miles south of Lizard Point.

The vessel was taking in water and its bilge pumps were not working. Coastguard helicopter 924 was also tasked and was making its way to the scene.
With sea conditions described as poor, RNLB Rose steadily made her way to the position until it was confirmed that the fishing vessel had repaired their bilge pumps and were able to manage the ingress of water themselves.

This allowed the lifeboat and Coastguard helicopter to be stood down to return to their respective stations. Arriving back at Kilcobben Cove shortly after 9.15pm, RNLB Rose was rehoused and made ready for service again when required.
