Blackpool RNLI volunteer crew to take part in boat pull
Blackpool RNLI volunteer crew members are set to pull one of the inshore D class lifeboats along Blackpool Promenade this May Day bank holiday afternoon (Monday 1 May). They will be raising awareness of water safety and collecting donations.
Repeating a tradition stretching back years, Blackpool RNLI volunteer crew members are set to pull the inshore D class, Blackpool Endeavour, from the boat house to the Sand Castle water park and back. Active volunteer crew members will be seeking to engage the public on the route on what should be the busiest tourist weekend in Blackpool so far this year. They will also be accepting donations for the RNLI, who as a charity, rely on the generous donations of the general public to continue their lifesaving work.
The event is organised by the Friends of Blackpool Lifeboat, a group of volunteers that focus on fundraising. The boat that will be pulled, Blackpool Endeavour, was made possible through the generous donations of the Blackpool residents across the pandemic period.
One of the Blackpool RNLI volunteers taking part is Deputy Launch Authority Pat Abram. Pat said:
‘Last year was a success in funds raised, despite the rain. We are hoping this year will be much better weather, and give an opportunity to raise that vital cash to help keep the service running’
