Blackpool RNLI volunteer’s marathon challenge
A Blackpool RNLI volunteer crew member completed his first London Marathon on Sunday, and at the same time raised nearly £5,000 for the charity
Ciaran Nelson, who has been a RNLI volunteer crew member for the past four years, completed the London Marathon in an effort to raise funds for the RNLI. Ciaran knows the RNLI is reliant totally on donations to provide the 365 day/24 hour rescue service, and that was his motivation to run the challenging and exhausting course.
Training and fundraising started months ago, with all the Blackpool RNLI volunteers supporting him along the way and over the finish line. After Sunday, Ciaran said:
‘It was a great experience, and although recovery is taking some time, I have already entered the ballot to go again in 2024’.
