On a sunny April morning volunteer crew and supporters of Ramsgate RNLI came together to wish Kathleen Warner a very happy one hundred year birthday at the RNLI station.

When Kathy was born on Canvey Island on 25 April 1923 it was a very different world. Wembley Stadium opened in London for the first time, the U.S.S.R was established, the burial chamber of Tutankhamen was opened and his sarcophagus was found, the Flying Scotsman train began its service and the first sound on film moving pictures were shown in New York.

As a young woman Kathy moved to London and held an important role in the civil service as a courier moving important papers between Parliament and No. 10 Downing Street.

When she moved to Ramsgate later in her life she enjoyed walks along the coast which is where she developed her love of the sea. She also became a great supporter in her later years of the Ramsgate RNLI, and looks forward to meeting up with them. She has a great wicked sense of humour and considers the crew and volunteers as her family.

She was delighted to be invited to Ramsgate RNLI station, along with her close friend Laurel, where she was treated to birthday cake, and a glass of champagne and given presents and cards. Everyone sang Happy Birthday and station Chairman Eric Burton said a few word of thanks for her support.

The RNLI is entirely funded by public donations and without supporters like Kathy we would not be able to continue our role of saving lives at sea.
