Llanrwst Canoe Club visit Llandudno Lifeboat Station
Members of Llanwrst Canoe Club, all regular kayakers around the area's coast, rivers and lakes, visited Llandudno Lifeboat Station recently.
They were hosted by David Jones, a very long standing all-weather lifeboat crew volunteer together with Alun Pari Huws, one of the station's volunteer Deputy Launching Authorities.
As well as learning about both the station's lifeboats and complex launching gear, there was opportunity to answer many questions and to discuss matters of joint interest relating to sea safety. The way in which lifeboats are tasked by HM Coastguard was explained together with the importance of calling for help earlier rather than later should any kayaker, however well prepared and equipped, get into any difficulty.
Club Secretary, Brian Reynolds, said 'Club members thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the station and came away with a thorough appreciation of the way in which lifeboats and their crews not only train but how they go about their rescue work. It was a very valuable insight. It is always good to know that help is never far away'.
Alun Pari Huws and David Jones (third and fourth from left in the photograph) are shown with members of the club on the stern of the Shannon class all-weather lifeboat F Yates.
