Kirkcudbright RNLI gets a shout on Good Friday Bank Holiday
The Kirkcudbright volunteer crew of the 'Sheila Stenhouse' were called out midday on Friday 7th April. The boat was tasked to rescue a man who had fallen into the water from a small tender, at the mud moorings near the harbour.
On arrival the crew found the casualty still in the water but holding onto the back of a yacht. He had been in the water around 20 minutes. He was successfully rescued and taken to a waiting ambulance. The tender was then taken to the shore. Several of the other agencies were also in attendance HM Coastguard, Fire Brigade and Police.
John Collins, Kirkcudbright Lifeboat Operations Manager said: 'It was a successful rescue but shows the dangers of the water, even close to the land. The casualty was wearing a lifejacket which is always important.'
The lifeboat then returned to the boathouse where it was and refuelled and made ready for the next service.
Kirkcudbright Lifeboat has a sea safety officer who is always willing to give support and advice to anyone wanting to go out and enjoy the pleasures of the water.
Like all crews Kirkcudbright is on call 24/7. Over holiday periods it is especially important to ensure that a full crew is available at all times. This can be difficult at national holidays like Easter when a number of crew are away on holiday themselves but shows the dedication of all the lifeboat volunteers, that they make sure a full crew is always available.
