Tobermory RNLI assists capsized anglers
Tobermory lifeboat crew were tasked by the UK Coastguard after two people in difficulty in the water in Tobermory Bay were reported on Monday 3 April
The two men had managed to get themselves to shore on Tobermory beach after around 10 minutes in the water just as the crew arrived on scene. One of the men required casualty care as he was extremely cold and showing signs of possible hypothermia. He was monitored, given oxygen and warmed up on the beach by the volunteer crew. Whilst waiting for an ambulance, the decision was taken to move him to inside a local business out of the strong wind to further warm up.
The crew remained with the casualty until he had been assessed by the Scottish Ambulance Service, who took him to hospital for further assessment.
Coxswain David McHaffie said: ‘This was a service where we were able to be on scene within minutes without launching the lifeboat due to the location of the casualties and were very quickly able to administer casualty care. If you are going out on the water this summer, always carry an accessible means to call for help and do so at the first sign of difficulty. We would like the thank local businesses Tobermory Bakery, Virgin Bank and Browns for their assistance today.’
