RNLI Aldeburgh lifeboat launched to yacht aground

Lifeboats News Release

RNLI Aldeburgh relief inshore lifeboat (ILB), the M+P Anderson Vick, was launched on Sunday 2 April, at approximately 3.00pm, following a Coastguard request, to assist a yacht that had run aground on the river side of Orford Haven.

RNLI Aldeburgh ILB was tasked by the Coastguard to launch, following a report of a yacht that had run aground on the river bank.

On arrival at scene, at 3.21pm, it became apparent it was the same casualty yacht from the all-weather lifeboat rescue the previous night. Due to the winds and sea state, the yacht had had to be abandoned and left to drift, as agreed with the Coastguard.

The ILB crew secured the casualty using the yacht’s anchor, which was challenging due to the continuing strong winds.

The ILB returned to station at 4.40pm.
