Girvan Lifeboat races to Yacht in Difficulty
Race against the tide, sees yacht rescued.
Today at 15:48, Girvan's all-weather Lifeboat was requested to Launch to a yacht in difficulty at the entrance to Girvan Harbour.
With the tide on the fall and it being very close to the tides lowest point, Girvan's volunteer crew wasted no time in launching our relief Shannon class all-weather Lifeboat 13-26 RNLB 'John Metters' and headed out towards the yacht, once the situation had been assessed, with the lifeboat crew and the owners on the yacht happy there was no damage and no one was injured, the decision was made to tow the vessel out to deeper water.
Girvan Lifeboat completed the tow within minutes, allowing the yacht to continue it's journey to a deep water port for the night.
Deputy Coxwain Alan Jeans said of the incident "with the falling tide, time was of the essence to get to the yacht and get it to deeper water, another few minutes and it could have been a whole different shout and towing the vessel clear may not have been an option, luckily on this occasion that was not the case and our volunteer crew dealt with the task in hand swiftly"
The Lifeboat and our volunteer crew returned to Girvan harbour, where the lifeboat was made ready for the next service call.
If you see someone in trouble or believe someone to be in trouble at sea or on the coast, please do not hesitate, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
