Triple Jubilee celebration for Calshot RNLI
Calshot RNLI had three reasons to celebrate this weekend as volunteer crew joined the rest of the country in celebrating HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
In addition, we celebrated the award of the Platinum Jubilee Medal to fifteen of our active crew. This medal is a token of the nations thanks to frontline members of the emergency services, prison service and Armed Forces.
During the seventy-year reign of Queen Elizabeth, the RNLI has saved over 69,000 lives and across the UK and Ireland, 4500 medals have been awarded to frontline crews.
Presenting the medals to those present at the awards ceremony was John Horton. John has been a member of the crew at Calshot since the station's inception in 1970, and in 2020 was himself awarded The British Empire Medal for his services to the RNLI. However, due to Covid delaying John receiving his medal, followed by some ill health, Calshot RNLI had been unable to celebrate John’s award until this weekend.
The full list of active crew from Calshot RNLI in receipt of the Platinum Jubilee Medal is:
Andy Headley, Damian Lester, Diane Carrier, Glenn Pearson, Graham Burgess, Joe Peoples, Jon Headley, Mark Laughlin, Martin Bean, Matthew Rawlins, Mark Weatherhead, Paul Courcha, Paul Sleep, Tim Pettis and Tony Carrier.
Lifeboat Operations Manager, Jane Banting said; 'It's fantastic to have so many members of our crew recognised with this medal and I'd like to thank each and every one of them for their continued commitment to the RNLI and to saving lives at sea.'
