Brighton Lifeboat Station provides a 24/7 on call search and rescue along the Sussex coastline between Newhaven and Shoreham.

The station has a B class Atlantic 85 lifeboat, Random Harvest.

Lifeboat operations manager Roger Cohen said: 'This role will help us save lives at sea by ensuring that our lifeboats are in a state of permanent readiness and crewing the lifeboat on service and exercise, under the command of the Helm.

'We are a varied station at Brighton with lots of holiday makers attracted to our busy city so it’s vital we work together to make sure we keep everyone safe.

'It’s a great opportunity for somebody local who wants to expand their skills and meet new people as well as making a real difference within the community.'

The station is looking for someone between the ages of 18 and 50 who lives or works closely to the station at Brighton Marina who can attend ideally within 10 minutes of the emergency call being received.

The volunteer role will include being ‘on call’ for lifeboat ‘shouts’ which can happen at any time of the day or night, you will also need to attend exercises to ensure your skills are kept up to date and to contribute to the overall upkeep of the station, lifeboats and equipment.

If you are a team player, with an ability to learn new skills and a good level of general fitness please visit the website for more details.

Livia Brynin, volunteer crew member for four years, at Brighton said: 'There’s fabulous training provided at both the station and support centre in Poole which is a real asset to the role, we train twice a week at Brighton Marina station we are friendly bunch and hold sociable events as much as we can.

'We always welcome new people and find crew members have a very similar ethos and outlook on life, Personally, I have made lifelong friends here so I’d really recommend it to anyone thinking of joining.'
