Due to the weather conditions, the D class inshore lifeboat Sheena was taken by road by the crew and shore crew to be launched within Irvine harbour.

After a search involving the Ayr and Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Teams and the Coastguard helicopter Rescue 199 no persons were found to be in difficulty and the call was put down to a false alarm with good intent.

The lifeboat crew then returned to Troon where the lifeboat was made ‘Ready for Service’ with the assistance of the shore crew.

If you think you see someone in difficulty at sea or along the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
