RNLI Chief Executive visits Troon RNLI lifeboat station

On Tuesday 18 May 2021 RNLI Chief Executive Mark Dowie paid a quick visit to Troon lifeboat as part of his whistle-stop tour of RNLI lifeboat stations.

During his visit to the station Mark, who was appointed RNLI Chief Executive in 2019, met with representatives of the lifeboat crew, management group, fundraisers and shop volunteers.

While at Troon, Mark presented two well known Troon RNLI members with RNLI long service medals.
Mark awarded Coxswain Joe Millar with his 30 year medal.

And Mark also presented retired Troon Coxswain, and current lifeboat station curator, Ian Johnson with his medal marking 50 years with the RNLI.

Congratulations to both Joe and Ian from everyone at Troon lifeboat station.

Key facts about the RNLI

The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 142,700 lives.
