Early morning call for volunteers
Volunteers from Newbiggin and Blyth lifeboat stations were requested to launch to support a shore incident today.
The call came in around 03.20 from the UK Coastguard Humber Operations Centre who requested the lifeboat launch to the River Wansbeck and Sandy Bay area.
Shortly afterwards Newbiggin's Atlantic 85 B class lifeboat Richard Wake Burdon with four volunteer crew on board launched from the beach and headed south to begin a search of the area. Blyth's Atlantic 75 B class lifeboat Sure and Steadfast was also tasked to the search to support Newbiggin and Blyth coastguard teams along with officers from Northumbria Police.
After an hour of the operation the incident was closed and all units were released.
